Attilah's Story
Sagittal Craniosynostosis
Darcy's Story
Darcy's Mum Kelly tells their story...
Darcy was diagnosed with Sagittal Craniosynostosis at four months old.
This was a scary and unknown time for our family, however our Paediatrician and the whole Cranio team were incredible. They went above and beyond to make us feel at ease and provide enough information on the matter / process going forward, this was especially important to us as we had never heard of the condition.
Nearly four months later was the day for Darcy to have her surgery. Lots of emotions, fears and feelings of being unsettled. The whole process from check in to the actual surgery was really calm and smooth. Our whole family felt a sense of relief knowing Darcy was in the best possible hands throughout her surgery and recovery.
We took a lot of strength in how happy Darcy was, she was really the rock in it all. For us it was an extremely reflective time during the hospital stay, we had the privilege to take Darcy home and her outcome was positive. The hospital stay opened our eyes up to others who didn’t have this privilege and that will remain with us for life.
Darcy’s whole medical team were incredible, and we cannot thank them enough, especially the Cranio Team in all of their support and efforts for Darcy and our family.
Darcy is a thriving little toddler now, with so much hair it is hard to see her scar.
A special point in our own story, is during the lead up to Darcy’s surgery, my Dad was reading the newspaper and saw an article that detailed a Bosnian Family, who were fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel to Adelaide where their little girl Dahlia, had Cranio surgery. We managed to get in touch with the family and spent time in Adelaide together before they returned back home. Post Darcy’s surgery we travelled to Europe on holidays and visited them in Bosnia. It was a real highlight to see both of our daughters playing happy together and to have met such a wonderful family under really unique circumstances.
As expressed above, we feel so blessed to have had such an incredible team at our doorstep and our whole family feels so incredibly lucky for Darcy’s experience.
Thank you to Darcy's Mum Kelly for sharing
their story.
